MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Ashley Focht recorded 12 kills to lead West Chester University to a thrilling come-from-behind, 3-2, victory over host Millersville in a critical PSAC East volleyball showdown at Pucillo Gym Friday night.
West Chester (23-13, 8-10 PSAC) increased its winning streak to six straight and has now won 10 of its last 11 games to move into a tie for second place with Kutztown, who was a 3-0 winner over Shippensburg on the road Friday. Millersville (14-25, 5-13) saw its hopes for the postseason seriously diminish with the setback.
The Golden Rams also clinched a playoff berth in the 2009 PSAC Volleyball postseason tournament, which gets under way next week.
Focht made a triumphant return from an illness that had sidelined her for over a week to lead the squad in kills. Lexi Kegerise and Michelle Powers each posted nine kills in the win as well.
Lisa Campbell registered 24 digs and five aces for the Golden Rams. Helen Fitzpatrick recorded 40 assists and 16 digs. Morgan Litak registered 12 digs and Nora Jingeleski 10 digs in the win. Kelly Martin posted five blocks up front.
West Chester closes out the regular-season portion of its schedule Saturday afternoon at Shippensburg with an opportunity to gain a home match in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday. The Golden Rams would need to defeat the Raiders and hope that Millersville could upset Kutztown.
