LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – West Chester University senior LB Mike Dell was named the PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week it was announced by the conference Sunday afternoon.
It marks the second time this year that West Chester has had one of its players recognized in the weekly awards. QB Joe Wright was the PSAC East Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the season.
The co-captain of the Golden Rams helped West Chester to a 30-14 win over No. 10 Bloomsburg on Saturday. He led the squad with nine tackles, including one sack, and forced a fumble. He was also credited with two QB hurries as WCU’s top-ranked defense in the conference harassed the Huskies all day long.
Dell was part of a defensive effort that limited Bloomsburg to a season-low 47 rushing yards as the Huskies went 3-for-11 on third-down conversions in the game. His forced fumble came on Bloomsburg’s final drive to help seal the victory for the Golden Rams.
West Chester concludes its 2009 campaign next Saturday at home on Senior Day with a tilt against Mercyhurst.
