WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Lafayette College scored twice in the first half and once more in the second to earn a 3-0 victory over host West Chester University in a non-league field hockey match Sunday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.
West Chester (6-7) had its chances in the last eight minutes of the game, but could not finish. Lafayette (9-4) snapped its three-game losing streak with the road win.
Both Lafayette goals came off penalty corners. Deanna DiCroce banged in a loose ball on the near post in the 20th minute to give the Leopards a 1-0 advantage. Kelly Hilovsky then scored in the 23rd minute from right in front.
Alison Schoch made it 3-0 in the second half when she beat West Chester goalkeeper Joelle Zarefoss, who came out of the cage to make a play on the ball. Schoch manuevered around Zarefoss and flicked the shot into the open cage.
Zarefoss made seven saves in the loss. Lafayette keeper Kelsey Andersen made nine, including four in the final eight minutes.
West Chester took only one shot in the first half. The Golden Rams fired off 14 in the second half with the majority of them coming during the final eight minutes of the game.
West Chester hosts Saint Louis on Friday at Vonnie Gros Field at 3 p.m.
