West Chester Women's Cross Country Picked 13th In Preseason Coaches' Poll

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University’s women’s cross country squad was picked to finish 13th in a poll of the PSAC head coaches it was announced by the conference on Friday. The Golden Rams are coming off an 11th-place finish at the 2007 PSAC Women’s Cross Country Championships a year ago.

Bloomsburg, who won the school’s first women’s cross country team title a year ago by ending Edinboro’s eight-year run, was selected to repeat as conference champion. The Huskies received nine first-place votes. Shippensburg was slotted second with six first-place nods. Edinboro was third with one vote for first.

West Chester returns sophomore Brigid Prufer, who is coming off a sensational freshman campaign. The Golden Rams’ coaches are very optimistic that Prufer can develop into one of the PSAC’s top runners over her next three seasons. She will be the key to a successful fall for WCU.

Prufer placed a team-high 22nd at the 2007 PSAC Championships with a time of 22:19. She was the top WCU finisher in four of the fall races. She ran a personal best 19:44, finishing sixth, at the Delaware Invitational. Prufer will certainly contend for all-league honors in 2008.
