CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – West Chester University’s women’s swimming team qualified two more relays for nationals at the end of the year as the Golden Rams continued competition at the Cavalier Invitational at the Aquatic Fitness Center on the campus of the University of Virginia Friday night.
Virginia, ranked 13th in the country at Division I, leads the pack with Yale, a powerhouse in the Ivy League, right behind followed up by West Chester.
In a meet formatted like the NCAA championship meet, West Chester made it 4-for-4 in its attempts to get relay teams qualified for nationals in March.
“The whole purpose of coming down here was to get people qualified,” WCU head coach Jamie Rudisill said. “So far, I’m pleased with the progress we have made.”
The Golden Rams’ 200 medley relay and 800 free relay squads each hit NCAA qualifying standards to join the 200 and 400 free relay squads, which qualified on Thursday. Jackie Borkowski, Rachael Gale, Erin Fischer and Megan Bauer placed fourth in 1:46.68 in the 200 medley to qualify. The 800 free relay team of Borkowski, Kristen Montello, Danielle Ierley and Bauer placed third in 7:42.15.
