Men’s Swim Team Qualifies 800 Free Relay For Nationals

Day Two Results

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – West Chester University’s men’s swimming team qualified the 800 free relay for nationals as the Golden Rams continued competition at the Cavalier Invitational at the Aquatic Fitness Center on the campus of the University of Virginia Friday night.

The foursome of Brendan Fanslau, Max Bernardes, Rod King and Matt Golebiewski finished third in 6:46.07 to hit its NCAA qualifying time. They finished behind both of Virginia’s relay teams in that event. 

Virginia, ranked 13th in the country at Division I, leads the pack with Yale, a powerhouse in the Ivy League, right behind followed up by West Chester.

Fanslau, normally a freestyle swimmer for the Golden Rams, turned in a Top 10 time at West Chester in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall in 50.85. Bernardes was third in the 400 individual medley in 4:01.25 for one of West Chester’s other top performances on Friday.

West Chester’s 200 medley relay team of Josh Pauley, Bill McClernan, Eric Kunzman and Fanslau just missed qualifying for nationals, finishing fourth in 1:35.14.

Friday’s events included the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 800 free relay. The meet concludes Saturday with the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free relay.
