West Chester Hires Shari Medini To Lead Gymnastics Squad

WEST CHESTER, Pa.  – West Chester University announced the hiring of Shari Medini as the newest member of the school’s head coaching staff. Medini will take over the reins of the women’s gymnastics program it was announced by director of athletics, Dr. Edward M. Matejkovic.

“We are very pleased to have Shari on board with us this fall,” Matejkovic said. “She comes from a very talented Division I program at Rutgers and will be a great addition to our staff.”

Medini graduated from Rutgers University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She was a letterwinner on the Scarlet Knights’ two NCAA squads in both her junior and senior seasons, helping Rutgers to the 2005 USAG team title. The 2006 squad earned the Wilma Rudolph Student Athlete Achievement Award given out by the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A).

"I am very excited to have been given this opportunity to return to collegiate gymnastics,” Medini said. “College sports breed an incredible environment that I loved as an athlete and look forward to fostering as a head coach.

“It is now my job to build on the current program with increased strength, work ethic, technique, and grace. I look forward to working with the gymnasts and the athletic department to continue the success of West Chester University."

Medini succeeds Jen Teneza, who completed her fifth year at her alma mater last season, guiding the gymnasts to a third-place finish in the ECAC Division II standings.
