SCRANTON, Pa. - West Chester University's cheerleaders attended the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) College Cheerleading Camp in August, held at the University of Scranton, and earned the Leadership Award out of approximately 45 schools in attendance.
The cheerleaders spent three full days learning new cheers, sidelines, and stunts from experts in the cheerleading industry as well as learning the most up-to-date safety rules and techniques. Among the schools attending the camp were University of Miami (Fla.), Villanova , The College of New Jersey, Kutztown, University of Delaware, and Slippery Rock.
On the fourth day of camp, the cheerleaders participated in camp championships and earned first-place honors in the sideline division and third-place plaudits in the cheer division. The team earned four superior ribbons throughout the week.
To round out the awards, the West Chester Cheerleaders earned the Leadership Award. The award is voted on by the rest of the teams at camp based upon which team camp wouldn't be the same without. West Chester University cheerleaders are looking forward to brining all of the skills they learned at camp back to the WCU fans!
